This calculator interprets the Hubble redshift as gravitational redshift (as opposed to expansion).

The purple circle in the center of the page represents the region of the universe that is involved in the observation. The red line represents the path of the light wave, with the center being the point of emission.

For simplicity, the observer is presumed to be at a region with zero gravity. All of the mass within the purple circle contributes to the light wave as gravitational redshift. (Birkhoff's theorem)
